Good editing is hard to find and easy to undervalue — until you work with someone who really knows what they're doing and you feel the difference in your draft.

I've spent two decades on both sides of the editorial relationship: as a writer who has navigated everything from nimble digital editors to exacting print processes, and as an editor who has developed and shaped other writers' work across health, culture, beauty, and beyond. I know how to read a draft with fresh eyes and tell a writer what's actually going on with it — not just what's wrong, but why, and how to fix it.

I work with journalists, essayists, and other nonfiction writers at various stages: sharpening a pitch, developing a concept, untangling structural problems, or polishing a near-final draft. If your piece isn't quite working and you can't figure out why, I probably can help with that.
